Aussie star nominated for AFC's top award

Westfield Matildas star Elise Kellond-Knight has been nominated as one of three players in the running for the 2015 Asian Football Confederation Women’s Player of the Year.

Capping a stunning year for the classy midfielder, Kellond-Knight has been shortlisted alongside Japanese duo Aya Miyama and Rumi Utsugi.

The incredible accolade comes on the back of a sensational showing at the year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada, where the Matildas made it through to the quarter finals.

The 25-year-old caught the eye in Canada and was soon snapped up by German club Turbine Potsdam.

Brisbane Roar's Katrina Gorry and Kate Gill are two Australians that have won the prestigious award previously.

The AFC released their three male player nominations but none of Ange Postecoglou’s squad were listed.

UAE duo Ahmed Khalil and Omar Abdulrahman, along with Chinese veteran Zheng Zhi, are the three players in the running.

The AFC Awards ceremony will be held on November 29 in New Delhi.
