Transfer news: Aussie keeper signs with Seattle

Westfield Matildas goalkeeper Lydia Williams has completed a move to National Women’s Soccer League club Seattle Reign.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper has the made the switch from fellow NWSL club Houston Dash.

Williams made eight appearances for the Dash this season but lost the starting spot to American Jane Campbell midway through the campaign.

Reign secured the 60-cap Australian international in exchange for a second-round draft pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft.

Seattle Head Coach Laura Harvey said she was delighted to have secured the services of the experienced Williams.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to bring in another goalkeeper,” Harvey said in the team’s official release.

“Lydia has international experience and suits the way we like to play. I feel she can have an impact within the group both short term and long term.”

Seattle are currently in sixth spot on the NWSL standings and sit five points behind fourth-placed Orlando Pride with four matches remaining.
