Westfield Matildas duo on target in USA

Two Westfield Matildas were on the scoresheet in the latest round of National Women’s Soccer League action in the United States.

Sam Kerr scored twice and laid on a third as Sky Blue FC climbed to third place with a 3-1 away win against the Portland Thorns.

The game was only 25 seconds old when Kerr supplied a cross for the first goal.

The score remained at 1-0 until the 70th minute when the Aussie attacker doubled the lead.

The 23-year old then added a third in the closing minutes before a late Portland consolation from the penalty spot.

Fellow Australian Alanna Kennedy was also among the scorers in Orlando Pride’s 4-2 win at bottom-placed Houston Dash.

The Matildas defender headed home a 68th minute corner from five-time FIFA World Player of the Year Marta, who was involved in all four of the Pride’s goals.

The victory took Orlando to sixth on the National Women’s Soccer League ladder.
