Westfield Matildas excited ahead of AFC Awards

Westfied Matildas stars Lisa de Vanna and Caitlin Foord are in Abu Dhabi for the AFC Awards tonight and have spoken to the AFC about their excitement at being nominated for the AFC Women's Player of the Year Award.

"Obviously it’s a massive honour to be nominated for such an amazing award. It was a great honour to win AFC Youth Player of the Year but I think Player of the Year is just that bit better.

"It would be awesome if I could win that, if not, it’s just cool to be nominated for such an amazing award," said Foord.

"It’s massive. I think anyone in our team could’ve been nominated. The team is growing so fast and everyone is developing so well. I think that shows within our team.

"To be nominated alongside Lisa shows that the game is getting big in Australia and any one of us Matildas could’ve been nominated for this award.

"It’s a great honour to be among Asia’s three best players," added de Vanna.

Westfield Matildas boss Alen Stajcic with Co-Captain Lisa De Vanna.

"To be nominated as an Australian, doing what I love, it’s a great honour. And to be part of a federation that’s very strong, you can’t put words to it."
