Westfield Matildas’ pledge ahead of Brazil match-up

Star midfielder Katrina Gorry says there’ll be no resting on their laurels for the Westfield Matildas in the upcoming matches against Brazil.

Fresh from their historic win at the Tournament of Nations, the squad has reassembled this week ahead of the dual home internationals against Brazil in Penrith (Saturday) and Newcastle next Tuesday.

CONSISTENCY THE KEY

“Beating the US once isn't going to make us world champions,” warned Japan-based midfielder Gorry.

“We've got to be consistent.

“Hopefully we can get another big win against Brazil and continue through to the Asian Cup and leading into the World Cup and Olympics in coming years,” she said.

THE HOTTEST TICKET IN TOWN

The burgeoning popularity of the side has seen Saturday's first clash against Brazil at Penrith's Pepper Stadium sell out.

“Obviously we saw the numbers growing but we didn't realise that we'd hit a full stadium so it's really exciting,” said Gorry.

“We can't wait to get out there and we're so excited to show the fans what we're made of.

“We have different personalities throughout the group and it's exciting for the fans to get to know us all and to see what we can do on the field,” she said.
