Westfield Matildas star recognised in NWSL

Westfield Matildas star Sam Kerr has been voted National Women's Soccer League Player of the Week.

The attacker scored twice and set up a third goal in Sky Blue FC's 3-1 victory over Portland Thorns FC.

Kerr teed up Costa Rican team-mate Raquel Rodriguez for the first goal of the match, which was timed as the fastest in NWSL history at 25 seconds.

She then scored herself in the 70th minute, beating the offside trap and rounding the goalkeeper before slotting home.

Kerr repeated the dose late in the game, again taking the ball around the advancing 'keeper before stroking it into an empty net.

The goals were the 29th and 30th of her NWSL career, meaning Kerr becomes just the third player in league history - along with former Seattle Reign midfielder Kim Little and North Carolina Courage forward Jessica McDonald - to reach the 30-goal milestone.
