Qantas Socceroo striker John Aloisi has been left in limbo and will not be joining Panathinaikos after negotiations collapsed, following the club-s revised offer to the Osasuna striker.

Aloisi signed a two-year deal with the Greek club last week, but after he failed his medical because of a knee problem, Panathinaikos reportedly revised its offer to a one-year deal, which Aloisi rejected.

Aloisi has maintained that there is no problems with his knee, however a spokesman on the club-s website said, “following the medical examinations that all future players have to have before signing, Panathinaikos FC have decided not to complete the transfer of Australian player John Aloisi."

Aloisi will now continue his search for a new club after rejecting a new deal from his Spanish club Osasuna while at the Confederations Cup. He is available on a free transfer and finished equal second top goal scorer at the Confederations Cup with four goals.

He has been linked English Premier League clubs Portsmouth and Manchester City, prior to his initial signing with Panathinaikos and it remains to be seen whether they and other clubs are still interested in the 29-year-old after news of the injury.
