Public tickets to the Socceroos Asian Cup qualifying match against Kuwait at Sydney-s Aussie Stadium on August 16 will go on sale on at 9am Tuesday (11 July) and fans are urged to move quickly to buy the remaining 10,000 available tickets.

The Asian Cup game represents the Socceroos first game on Australian soil since their outstanding performances during the FIFA World Cup where they qualified for the second round only to be beaten in heart-breaking fashion in the final seconds by Cup finalist, Italy.

The Football Family has responded positively to their exclusive ticketing window this week by snapping up a large amount of tickets to the match with Kuwait.

Football Federation Australia Chief Executive, Mr John O-Neill, said the Asian Cup fixture with Kuwait was a wonderful opportunity for Sydney fans to continue their united and dedicated support for the Socceroos.

“All Australians were united behind the Socceroos during the World Cup in Germany and now they can see their football heroes live in action as we chase Asian Cup success,” he said.

The Asian Cup is one of world football-s biggest championships. The 2004 final between Japan and Asia was watched by a cumulative TV audience of 748 million viewers.

Japan is the defending Asian Cup champions and the Socceroos pose a serious threat to their title hopes having defeated the Blue Samurai 3-1 in the opening FIFA World Cup group match in Germany last month.

Firstly, however, the Socceroos must finish either first or second in their Asian Cup group to qualify for the finals which will be played in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam in July, 2007.

The Socceroos currently heads its group after Archie Thompson, Josip Skoko and Ahmad Elrich scored in their 3-1 win over Bahrain in Manama earlier this year.

The match with Kuwait is the first of three home Asian Cup games to be played by the Socceroos in coming months.

The Socceroos will play its second home game against Lebanon at Adelaide Oval on August 31 before facing Bahrain at Sydney-s Aussie Stadium on October 11.
