Aussies Abroad | Good's fractured fairytale

Curtis Good's first taste of a trophy match in the UK was anything but as his Bradford side were humiliated by Swansea.

The League Cup final between Bradford City and Swansea presented two young Australians with a fairytale of their own in one of the feel-good stories of the sporting year - but in the end Swansea celebrated a 5-0 shellacking over the League Two club.

Good started at Wembley in the final, but was replaced at half-time. Fellow Aussie James Meredith was not on the bench due to injury.

Swansea burst out of the blocks in the decider and showed all their class against a side who beat Premier League side Aston Villa in the semi-finals.

In the Barclays Premier League over the weekend, Mark Schwarzer was at his vintage best as he haunted Stoke City-s Jon Walters. After a strong save in the first-half, the Socceroos No.1 stepped up for Fulham and produced more penalty heroics, denying Walters in the 1-0 win.

Adam Federici continues to impress as well. Reading lost 3-0 in a poor performance against Wigan Athletic - but it could have been more but for Federici.

In the nPower Championship, it was a disappointing day at the office for two Aussies at Middlesbrough. Rhys Williams came off at the break, while Scott McDonald, returning from injury, had a late equaliser disallowed as their side lost 2-1 to Millwall, dropping out of the promotion play-off spots.

There was jubilation at Bristol City, off the bottom after a 5-3 win over Barnsley, with Neil Kilkenny enjoying the final 14 minutes. Elsewhere, Crystal Palace lost 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday, with Mile Jedinak getting 90 minutes under his belt.

In Scotland, Tom Rogic came on in the 65th minute as Celtic cruised past bottom side Dundee FC 5-0. The classy midfielder had a hand in the fourth goal.

In the continent, there-s little to report from our German contingent, but in Holland, Tommy Oar scored in FC Utrecht-s 4-0 win over Roda Kerkrade. Michael Zullo was unfortunately taken off with an ankle knock after 67 minutes, but Oar, earning his first start in 2013 because of a hamstring injury, was quickest to react off a loose ball for the third goal.

In Middle East action: Alex Brosque-s Al Ain lost 1-0 loss lowly Dibba Al Fujairah in UAE, but they-re still six points clear at the top; Dino Djulbic-s Al Wahda beat Richard Porta-s Dubai; Sasa Ognenovski-s Umm Salal beat Sailiya SC 1-0 in Qatar; Mark Bresciano-sAl Gharafa lost 2-0 to Khor SC.
