Aussies abroad: Sam Kerr key in Sky Blue draw

Westfield Matildas star Sam Kerr has delivered again in the US National Women’s Soccer League, setting up her side’s equaliser in Sky Blue FC’s draw with leaders North Carolina Courage on Monday (AEST).

In the penultimate match of the NWSL season, it was Kerr’s chest down to team-mate Raquel Rodriguez which ensured her side secured a 1-1 draw with the Courage.

The 24-year-old Aussie was looking to become the first player in NWSL history to score 17 goals in a season if she found the net in New Jersey.

She’ll get one more chance next weekend when Sky Blue FC travels to Boston to play the Breakers.

Kerr has enjoyed a bumper season in the US, netting 16 times on her way to becoming the competition’s greatest-ever scorer.

Her prolific campaign included an incredible four-goal haul in the second half of one match as Sky Blue FC came from 3-0 down to beat Seattle 5-4.

But in a major shock over the weekend, Kerr missed the three-player nomination for the Best FIFA Women's Player 2017.

Meanwhile, there were four Aussies in action as Orlando Pride and Portland Thorns played out a goalless draw in Florida.

Steph Catley and Alanna Kennedy both started for the Pride, while Ashleigh Sykes and Hayley Raso both got through 90 minutes for the visitors.

And in Seattle, Lydia Williams played a full game in goal for the Reign as they went down 1-0 against FC Kansas City.
