Aussies Abroad | Valeri into Serie A

Qantas Socceroo Carl Valeri will be playing in one of the world-s best leagues next season, after his club Sassoulo won promotion to Serie A.

Sassoulo only needed one win out of their remaining three fixtures and secured their place in Italy-s top flight for the first time in the club-s history after defeating Livorno 1-0 on the weekend.

After drawing against Padova and Pro Vercelli, Simone Missiroli scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time, sending the small town of Modena into raptures.

Valeri, who has been playing in Italy for more than a decade, will be the eighth Australian to play in Serie A, following the likes of John Aloisi, Vince Grella, Zeljko Kalac, Mark Bresciano, Frank Farina, Paul Okon and James Troisi, currently with Atalanta.
