Australia face DPR Korea in Women's Final

Westfield Matildas face DPR Korea in AFC Women's Asian Cup Final

The Westfield Matildas are set to play DPR Korea in the 2010 AFC Women-s Asian Cup Final.

DPR Korea defeated host nation China 1-nil in a match that took extra time to decide.

The Westfield Matildas, who beat tournament favourites Japan in last night-s semi-final, face the last big test of their Asian adventure on Sunday night at the Chengdu Sports Center Stadium.

Host nation China will play Japan in the 3rd/4th playoff which will also decide who takes the final Asian place at the FIFA Women-s World Cup 2011 following the qualification of Australia and DPR Korea last night.

“We-re over the biggest hurdle in the tournament which was World Cup qualification,” said Westfield Matildas Head Coach Tom Sermanni.

“I think now the team is much more relaxed and that should translate out on the park with the girls able to play a more composed and assured style.

“Japan was a real battle, but after beating them and DPR Korea (3-2 in Brisbane, March 2010) I think there-s a lot of belief in this squad that we can take on anyone.

The Westfield Matildas play DPR Korea in the 2010 AFC Women-s Asian Cup Final on Sunday at 7.30pm local (9.30pm AEST), live and exclusive on ABC 2.
