Australia v Denmark - A Recent History

Royal ties aside, Australia and Denmark don’t have a great history but with the Europeans finalising their 2012 European Championships own preparations, the Qantas Socceroos can expect a tough test at Parken Stadium.

The Qantas Socceroos warm-up for their FIFA World Cup qualifiers with an international friendly against Denmark on Saturday 2 June.

Royal ties aside, Australia and Denmark don-t have a great footballing history - the two sides have only met twice, in 2007 and in 2010.

The first encounter saw an injury hit Qantas Socceroos side fall 3-1 to the north Europeans at Loftus Road in London.

The coach Graham Arnold saw his under-strength side concede three goals in the first half but came out firing in the second.

Two headers from Michael Thwaite and John Aloisi were both disallowed, and it wasn-t until five minutes from the end that Australia finally got on the scoreboard, from a Brett Emerton free-kick.

The last time the two met was another warm-up fixture, this time at Ruimsig Stadium in Johannesburg as a last run-out ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

It was the Qantas Socceroos- first chances to test themselves playing a high altitude and striker Josh Kennedy took advantage of a lucky bounce from a Luke Wilkshire cross to tap home the only goal of the game as Australia ran out 1-0 winners.

This time, the Qantas Socceroos head to Copenhagen to face Denmark on their own turf, as part of a mammoth month of football and air travel.

With Denmark ranked No.10 in the FIFA World Rankings - 11 places ahead of 21st-placed Australia* - and finalising their own preparations ahead of the 2012 European Championships, the Qantas Socceroos can expect a very tough test at Parken Stadium.

The Qantas Socceroos begin their final phase of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup with a clash against Oman in Muscat on Friday, 8 June.

Soon after, the Qantas Socceroos will host Japan in their first home fixture of the fourth stage of Asia-s FIFA World Cup qualification process on Tuesday, 12 June at Brisbane-s Suncorp Stadium. Kick off is at 8pm.
