Just two days after Scott McDonald scored a brace of goals for Celtic, Qantas Socceroos attacking weapons Brett Holman and Josh Kennedy were on target for AZ Alkmaar and Nagoya Grampus Eight respectively.

Holman set AZ on their way to a 5-1 win in the Dutch Supercup against Heerenveen.

Having struggled for a regular starting spot in his first season at AZ, Holman would have been buoyed to get a start in the first big game of the season and he was on the spot to score after 15 minutes.

AZ added two more goals by half time and despite Heerenveen pulling one back after the break a brace from Jeremain Lens gave AZ an emphatic victory.

Meanwhile, Kennedy made it two in two games for Nagoya Grampus as they upset Urawa Red Diamonds 3-0 in Saitama.

Japanese international Keiji Tamada gave Nagoya the perfect start after 14 minutes and doubled the lead on 61 minutes with a shot that went in off the underside of the bar.

Kennedy then made sure of the points ten minutes later heading home powerfully and almost grabbing a second when his shot hit the post.
