Australia will have to wait for two months to ensure its qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals, after Bahrain secured a valuable 1-0 win over Qatar in Manama.

A draw would have meant Australia qualified for South Africa, but Bahrain-s win sees Australia needing just a point in one of its final three matches to book it tickets.

Striker Fouzi Aaish secured the winning goal for Bahrain in the 52nd minute from a terrific free-kick. He curled a low shot into the far corner of the net.

The win moved Bahrain ahead of Uzbekistan to third place on the table. They have seven points, three ahead of both Uzbekistan and Qatar.

In Group B, South Korea edged neighbours North Korea 1-0 in a tense match in Seoul, while Saudi Arabia came from 2-1 down at the break to end UAE-s World Cup ambitions with a 3-2 win in Riyadh.

South Korea now head the table on 11 points, but North Korea and Saudi Arabia are close behind on 10 points.
