Japan sit atop Group B in the AFC section of FIFA World Cup Qualifying after easily accounting for Oman.
Japan have taken an early lead in Group B in the final round of Asian FIFA World Cup Qualifying, the Blue Samurai asserting their will on an overmatched Oman team to defeat the Gulf nation 3-0 in Japan.
Keisuke Honda got Japan off to the best possible start by netting in the 12th minute of the match and from there it was a case of Japan continuing to overpower their rivals throughout the encounter.
Ryoichi Maeda and Shinji Okazaki sealing the result with second half goals for the Blue Samurai, the result leaving Oman sitting in last spot and desperate to avoid a second humiliation at the hands of the Qantas Socceroos.
Later on in the evening in a battle of the Gulf nations, Jordan managed to escape their match with Iraq in Amman with a 1-1 draw, after Iraq opened the match with a flourish, Nashat Akram scoring for the visitors in just the 14th minute, before Jordan managed to level things just before the break through Ahmad Hayal.
Hayal taking full advantage of a mistake by Iraqi goalkeeper Kassid, who failed to hold onto Baha- Abdelrahman-s vicious long range strike, allowing Hayal to net from inside the six yard box.
Jordan will play Japan in the next round of matches, while Australia will take on Oman in Muscat.
