Westfield Matildas drawn in Group B for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2018

The Westfield Matildas have been drawn in Group B along with Japan, Korea Republic and Vietnam for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2018 which will be held in Jordan in from 7 to 22 April.

The draw was held today at the King Hussein bin Talal Convention Centre on the eastern shores of the Dead Sea, in Sweimeh، Jordan.

The top five nations will qualify for the next World Cup. 

The draw was held today at the King Hussein bin Talal Convention Centre on the eastern shores of the Dead Sea, in Sweimeh، Jordan.

Westfield Matildas Head Coach Alen Stajcic was present for the draw and was relatively pleased with the result.

“Obviously a very tough draw but one that we embrace and look forward to the challenge of,” said Stajcic.

“Having a group like this means there are no easy matches and no easy moments.

“We have to ensure that we hit the ground running to give ourselves the best possible chance of reaching the knockout rounds,” concluded Stajcic.

The AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2018 will serve as the qualification tournament for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 which will be held in France from 7 June to 7 July. The top five (5) nations from the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2018 will progress to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019.

The Westfield Matildas AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2018 matches will be broadcast live on FOX SPORTS.
