Bresciano ended his four-year association with Parma, by signing for the ambitious Sicilian club, who finished eighth in the Serie A last season. The deal involved Igor Budan and Maurizio Ciaramitaro going in the opposite direction on loan.

Palermo is one of the club-s set to benefit from the Italian match-fixing scandal, with a place in the UEFA Cup beckoning, with Juventus, AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina all barred from competing in European football.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder scored 17 goals in 123 matches for Parma.

In other transfer news, Socceroos defender Ljubo Milicevic has moved to Young Boys from fellow Swiss club FC Thun, while in Romania, Ryan Griffiths has transferred from FC National to rivals Rapid Bucuresti.

Qantas Socceroo defender Craig Moore is one of the first players back in competition action for his club, helping Newcastle United into the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup.

Moore came on as a second half substitute, as Newcastle eased to a comfortable 3-0 away win against Norwegian side Lillestrom, which featured Aussie players Shane Steffanutto (full game) and Kasey Wehrman (came on half time).

The tie finished 4-1 in Newcastle-s favour after the Norwegian-s surprisingly kept the Magpies to a 1-1 draw at St. James- Park.

The news wasn-t so good for Stephen Laybutt however after his Belgium side AA Gent was held 1-1 at home and lost 3-2 on aggregate to Swiss club Grasshoppers.

Meanwhile, FC Basel is reportedly interested in signing Qantas Socceroo midfielder Luke Wilkshire, who is currently training with FC Twente in Holland.

His agent reports that Sheffield United and Leeds United are still keeping close tabs on his movements and that several Italian clubs are also interested, following his performances at the World Cup.
