David Carney is enjoying bragging rights amongst his teammates in Copenhagen, having helped his club side Bunyodkor to an AFC Champions League win over Sasa Ognenovski-s Seongnam Ilhwa.

The Qantas Socceroo defender contributed 90 minutes for his side from Uzbekistan-s Professional Football League as they marched through to the quarterfinal stage of the AFC Champions League at Seongnam-s expense.

Temporary adversary Ognenovski was also an ever-present for his side, but was ultimately unable to halt the charge of Carney and his teammates, as they ran out 1-0 victors.

“It was a good game for us (Bunyodkor),” said Carney.

“It-s great for the club, they-re all happy and it will put me in good stead hopefully for the next few games.

“We (Sasa Ognenovski and I) had a bit of a joke before the game but once the game started, obviously he wanted to win, I wanted to win and we both played our part in the game.

“I-m just happy to get the win and flying back with him was a good flight for me!”

Carney has been in sound touch since arriving in Uzbekistan earlier in the year - contributing to most of Bunyodkor-s early season matches.

The Tashkent-based club currently tops the Professional Football League standings and Carney will be hoping his run of form and results continues on the international stage in the coming weeks.

Capped 39 times by the Qantas Socceroos, Carney is a strong option on the left side of defence for coach Holger Osieck, meaning a showdown against Denmark-s impressive front section at the Parken Stadium tomorrow is likely.

“The Danes are a very, very good side,” said Carney.

“They-ve got a lot of world class players, I remember playing against them in South Africa, it was difficult, they had a lot of the ball.

“I-m now sure what side he-s (Holger Osieck) going to put out yet but he wants to win every game.”

The Qantas Socceroos face Denmark in an international friendly at Copenhagen-s Parken Stadium on Saturday, 2 June. Kick off is at 5pm. (Sunday, 3 June AEST, Kick off is at 1am AEST).

The Qantas Socceroos begin their final phase of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup with a clash against Oman in Muscat on Friday, 8 June.

Soon after, the Qantas Socceroos will host Japan in their first home fixture of the fourth stage of Asia-s FIFA World Cup qualification process on Tuesday, 12 June at Brisbane-s Suncorp Stadium. Kick off is at 8pm.
