Celtic to make Rogic bid

Central Coast Mariners are preparing for a formal bid from Celtic for star midfielder Tom Rogic, despite interest from Queens Park Rangers.

Reports this morning suggested the EPL club had made an offer of $700,000 for the Qantas Socceroos midfielder but a Mariners spokesman denied the club had received any such offer and said they were instead expected a formal bid from Celtic overnight.

It would then be up to Rogic, available for selection for the F3 derby this weekend after seeing out his suspension, to decide whether to head to Scotland and pursue the transfer.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has openly spoken of his desire to take Rogic back to Glasgow to see more of him and possibly play him in a trial against Steaua Bucharest, telling Scotland-s Daily Record: “We would like to play Tom against Steaua Bucharest but we will have to be careful about it for insurance reasons and stuff like that.

“We would like to play Rogic but if that-s not the case it-s not a big problem. We like the look of him, like the cut of him.

“Reading were interested but we stole a march on them so we will see how he does. We-re hoping to get him back to Glasgow for another week. “I think he-s worth the money from what I-ve seen but I-d like to have a proper look before we decide.”
