Westfield Matildas striker Lisa De Vanna scored one of the individual goals of the season on the weekend, as Washington Freedom defeated Sky Blue FC 2-1 at the RFK Stadium in Washington.

With Washington one up and half time approaching, De Vanna picked up the ball 40 yards out, advanced to the penalty area and held off a defender before sliding the ball past the Sky Blue keeper.

The Sky Blue-s with Collette McCallum in the midfield, pulled a goal back to set up an exciting finish, but Washington held on.

McCallum-s Sky Blue and Matildas teammate Sarah Walsh missed her second consecutive match with a hamstring injury.

The previous week De Vanna was the instigator of Washington-s goal in a 1-1 draw with Boston Breakers, while McCallum was replaced early in the second half as Sky Blue lost 1-0 to league leaders Los Angeles Sol.

Meanwhile, Heather Garriock-s miserable run with injury continued on the weekend after being forced off just 11 minutes after coming on as a half time substitute. The same thing happened in her first game back, almost four weeks ago, where she lasted nine minutes before re-injuring her leg.

To compound matters, Chicago lost 2-0 to their regional rivals St Louis and leaves them in second last position on the standings.

Meanwhile Kate Gill has continued her impressive start to the Swedish season, notching goals in her past two games to take her season tally to three.

Last weekend, Gill opened the scoring in the 9th minute, as Sunnana SK won 2-0 away at Pitea IF, while the previous weekend, Gill added her teams second goal in a 2-1 win over Kristianstads DFF.
