WHAT-S MAKING THE NEWS

URUGUAY WANT TIME SWITCH

Uruguay have requested from FIFA a switch of time for the first leg match in Montevideo, after their plans to hire a charter flight went askew.

The 9.00pm kick-off will mean they can not catch a commercial flight to Chile in time, to get the connecting flight to Sydney. The next flight from Santiago (Chile) is not till the next day and will mean they will only arrive in Sydney on Tuesday morning, just 36 hours before the second leg.

Australia was originally scheduled to take this flight, but was forced to book a charter flight instead, when Uruguay confirmed the kick-off time.

Uruguay has now asked FIFA for the game to kick-off at 5.00pm, so they can get the connecting flights they require, that will arrive on Monday, the same day Australia will arrive back in Sydney.

However FIFA has said they will only agree to the request if the FFA agrees, who are now considering the options available.

HALF OF THE AUSSIE SQUAD ARRIVE SAFELY

By late Sunday night, half the Australian squad had arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina for final preparations. Australian-based striker Archie Thompson was the first player to arrive on Saturday night, with all of the players who participated on Saturday (in Europe), arriving throughout Sunday.

Guus Hiddink and Graham Arnold also arrived on Saturday night, while the remainder will be in camp by early on Monday night.

Australia will base itself in Buenos Aires until Friday, before making the short trip across to Montevideo in Uruguay for Saturday night's game.
