Qantas Socceroo Mark Viduka continued his major impact at English Premier League club Middlesbrough, after notching a double in the 2-1 over Birmingham City. There was however mixed emotions for Tim Cahill, as he scored his first goal for Everton, but was subsequently red-carded for his celebrations - placing his shirt over his face.

Viduka (pictured right), a 4 million pound summer signing from Leeds United, is proving every inch his worth to Boro manager Steve McLaren, with his two goals taking his tally to three goals in as many starts.

He got the ball rolling for the home side in the 27th minute, when striker partner Jimmy Lloyd Hasselbaink curled an exquisite ball into his path and the Australian international made no mistake from 15 yards out.

However by half time, Birmingham, minus an injured Stan Lazaridis were level courtesy of Emile Heskey.

A confident start to the second half saw Boro rewarded when Viduka showed his predatory instincts inside the six-yard box, flicking home following a corner.

Meanwhile Cahill will have bittersweet memories of his first Premier League goal, after being issued with his second yellow card after briefly lifting his shirt over his head following his 58th minute header that sealed all three points for the Toffees.

Cahill, brought by Everton manager David Moyes to add goalscoring punch from midfield, showed just why the manager was keen to sign him, with another good display before his sensational, if somewhat bizarre send-off.

His aerial ability inside the box will be a constant source of danger for defenders in the Premier League and while he scored with one, probably should have had another with his head in the first half.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Qantas Socceroo Harry Kewell was a good contributor in Liverpool-s 3-0 win over West Brom, while there was more hard luck for Qantas Socceroo defender Tony Popovic, with his second own goal in as many games. He flicked a dangerous cross into his own net, as Crystal Palace continue to struggle with a 3-1 away loss to Portsmouth.

It was also not a good night for Qantas Socceroo duo of Lucas Neill and Brett Emerton, with both starting in the 3-0 loss away at Newcastle United.

Meanwhile in Scotland, Australian Under 23 striker Scott McDonald added to his tally of goals with Motherwell with a late equaliser against Dunfermline.

Danny Invincibile was also on the scoresheet, as Kilmarnock won 2-0 away at Livingston, with Invincibile grabbing the all-important second goal with 18 minutes to go.

In Germany, Christophe Teinert made his Bundesliga debut, coming on as a late substitute FSV Mainz 05 won 2-0 over league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
