Qantas Young Matildas coach Alistair Edwards has made nine changes to the side for tonight-s second match of the AFC Under 19 Women-s Championship against host nation Malaysia.
Only Collette McCallum (pictured right) and Leah Blayney remain from the starting line-up that beat group favourites China on Sunday night, with Edwards concerned with the humid conditions and how it effects the players.
“A major focus of our preparation for these championships has centred on utilising our full 20 player squad due to the intense schedule of having to play possibly five games in 10 days, said Edwards.
“Having played in the hot and humid conditions of Malaysia for seven seasons I am acutely aware of how crucial sufficient rest and recovery is to ensure players can perform to their potential. As such, none of the players will be playing all of the five games.” “The majority of the team that performed so brilliantly against China will be rested for today-s game with the exception of Collette McCallum who will captain the team and Leah Blayney”. The starting line up is: Alison Logue (gk); Grace Gill, Caitlin Cooper, Nicole Somi, Collette McCallum (c), Renee Cartwright, Leah Blayney, Servet Uzunlar, Amy Jackson, Jenna Tristram, Victoria Balomenos
Malaysia lost its opening match against Jordan 2-1 and must win to stay alive in the competition.
