FIFA confirm prize money increase for 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has announced a significant increase in prize money allocated to the FIFA Women's World Cup, starting next year for the 2019 edition of the competition in France.

Infantino, speaking post a FIFA council meeting in Rwanda, confirmed the increase in prize money.

A total of USD $50 million will be allocated across the 24 competing nations.

This will be broken down into USD $30m in prize money - up from USD $15m in 2015 - and USD $20m for preparation costs.

Infantino told the media on Friday: “There’s another very important decision, which is to significantly increase the financial contribution to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

"The overall contribution will be USD $50 million for the 24 participating teams, which is three times the amount paid in 2015.

"Concretely, this means a 100% increase in the prize money, from $15 million to $30 million. And introduction of preparatory money, for USD $11.5 million, and a club benefit program to reward clubs for USD $8.5 million.

"It’s a very important message for Women’s Football. It will certainly boost this World Cup even more."

Infantino also announced there will be a dedicated international window calendar for Women's Football, set to be introduced in 2019.

"We have approved an international match calendar to bring order to Women’s Football," he said.

"This is part of the strategy to boost Women’s Football. We have approved a four-year calendar cycle, including six international windows per year. It will published in the next few days."
