FIFA Women's World Cup Tickets Selling Fast

The hotly anticipated Women's World Cup has seen almost half a million tickets sold to date

The FIFA Women-s World Cup 2011 looks set to be played in front of packed houses after sales have just gone past the 450,000 mark. Since the beginning of the 4th and final sales phase on 20th January, the Local Organising Committee for the FIFA Women-s World Cup 2011 has received over 45,000 ticket requests from over 30 countries including Costa Rica, Ghana, Indonesia and South Africa.

Matches involving Germany have been in particularly high demand, with over 9,000 orders received in the past couple of weeks alone for the reigning champions- second group match against Nigeria at the Frankfurt World Cup Arena.

Other games, such as the match for third place and the clash between Olympic champions USA and Colombia in Sinsheim, as well as the highly-anticipated showdown between Brazil and Norway in Wolfsburg, are also among the fastest sellers.

The fourth and final ticket sales phase for the tournament comes to a close on Sunday 20th February, meaning there are less than three weeks remaining for fans to confirm their seat at the most eagerly anticipated matches of the tournament.

Local Organising Committee President Steffi Jones is extremely impressed with the take up so far but says fans need to get their skates on if they don-t want to miss out.

“From the end of February, we will not be able to offer tickets for all the matches. After the lottery, tickets for the first few games won´t be available. At the moment fans still have the chance to attend the final live and to support Germany on home turf.”

Leftover and returned tickets will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis in the Last Minute sales phase between 1 April and 17 July 2011. Since the first sales phase began on 29 October 2009, over 450,000 tickets have already been snapped up.
