France announce 23-player squad for Westfield Matildas clash

France manager Corinne Diacre has announced her 23-player squad for next month’s friendly against the Westfield Matildas.

Lyon superstar Amandine Henry and star forward Eugenie Le Sommer have been named in a star-studded Les Bleus line-up to host Australia in Saint-Etienne on Saturday, 6 October (AEST).

Midfield starlet Delphine Cascarino and defensive general Anaïg Butel are notable injury absentees.

France will convene in Clairefontaine from October 1 to prepare for the visit of the Westfield Matildas, with Les Bleus also set to host Cameroon in Grenoble on October 10.

“We will have two opposition teams that are completely different,” said Diacre at the squad’s unveiling.

“There will be trials. Australia are going to be very athletic, old-fashioned English style, kick and rush with long balls in front.

“They have a great ability to counter-attack, even if they have a lot of absentees. It does not change my game plan. Australia is a growing nation of football, which will offer us something else, with an athletic dimension. "
