Garriock's new addition to football family

In more good news for the Western Sydney football family, Westfield Matilda Heather has today announced that she is expecting her first child.

The Australian football community had much to celebrate this week with the announcement of a new Hyundai A-League team for Sydney.

And continuing the good news, one of Western Sydney-s favourite daughters, FFA Grassroots Ambassador and 130 cap Westfield Matilda Heather Garriock, has today announced that she is expecting her first child.

A first for a current playing Westfield Matilda, Garriock with partner Matthew, will spend the next seven months preparing for her next big challenge.

“Matt and I are very excited,” said Garriock. “We-re so happy to start our family and begin telling family and friends our wonderful news.”

“Since missing out on qualification for the London Olympics we decided it was the perfect time to start our family.

“My plan is to be able to return for the Westfield W-League next season and hopefully we-ll have a little Matilda or Socceroo as the team-s new mascot.”

Female football participation makes up nearly a quarter of Australia-s total registered player numbers.

The women-s game continues to outgrow other female participation sports year-on-year and with this week-s Commonwealth one million dollar funding announcement the elite pathway for women-s football remains more and more credible for the continuing growth of the sport.
