After the completion of the Commonwealth Games and the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix, and the kick off of the AFL season, Melbourne-s attention now turns to its next major event on the sporting calendar, the start of the Socceroos 2006 FIFA World Cup campaign in our own backyard. Tickets for the Powerade Cup match between the Socceroos and Greece at the MCG on Thursday May 25 go on sale from 9.00am tomorrow (Tuesday April 4), through Ticketmaster. The clash will be the hottest ticket in town, with more than 50 000 tickets already sold and pre-allocated to the match via the FFA-s Football Family and other priority offers. A sneak preview of the demand for tickets to this game was revealed today at Melbourne-s Federation Square, as a small allocation of general public tickets were released by Minister for Sport Justin Madden, Commonwealth Games athletes Clinton Hill and Scott Martin, Motor Racing Legend Mark Skaife and AFL star Nick Riewoldt. The Socceroos - Greece clash marks the start of the Australian team-s World Cup campaign, with the whole Australian squad making the trip to Melbourne to take on the European Champions. Directly following the fixture, the Australian team will leave for Germany so Melbourne residents are being called on to give the team a massive farewell before they take on the football-s best in the World-s largest sporting event.
