Another Westfield Matildas player, Joanne Peters, will hang up her boots from international football this weekend.

Peters will make her final appearance for the Westfield Matildas this Saturday when Australia meets Italy at Canberra Stadium.

The veteran of 109 'A' internationals, Peters kicked off her career at 17 years of age in 1996 during a match against New Zealand and scored her first of 28 goals during her debut match.

She represented her country in the 1999, 2003 and 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup and 2004 Olympic Games (Athens).

After having played for Northern NSW Pride, NSW Sapphires, Sydney United and Sydney Olympic, Peters joined Newcastle Jets for the inaugural season of the Westfield W-League competition.

Peters' club career has also taken her overseas playing for Santos in Brazil, New York Power and Charlotte Lady Eagles in the USA.

"On behalf of the football community I would like to thank Joanne Peters for the significant contribution she has made to women's football," said Football Federation Australia (FFA) CEO, Ben Buckley.

"She is another fine athlete who leaves the Westfield Matildas with our best wishes for her future.

"Jo is a shining example of opportunities available to talented young girls who are interested in sport. Now as women's football continues to grow and mature, particularly through the Westfield W-League, increasingly more opportunities are available for talented young girls - a foundation which we will continue to build on for future generations," he added.

Fans can watch Peters play her last match for the Westfield Matildas this Saturday against Italy.

The Australia v Italy match kicks off at 4.00pm AEDT on Saturday 7 February at Canberra Stadium.
