When you’re awarded a collection of gongs which includes 2018 Young Australian of the Year and 2018 ESPYS Best International Women’s Soccer Player, Westfield Matildas star Sam Kerr must get used to being called not only a football sensation but a role model to kids around the world.
But often it’s not until you see the effects first hand that it truly sinks in.
Kerr, who played for Perth Glory in the 2017-18 Westfield W-League, has shared a video on her Facebook page which was sent to her by the parent of a nine-year-old fan, Willow, on her birthday.
The video shows the young girl opening her present, a Westfield Matildas jersey with Kerr 20 on the back, and her reaction is priceless!
“What a wonderful inspiration you are Sam Kerr both on and off the pitch. This is the reaction you received in our house this morning for a little girls 9 year old birthday!” wrote Angelique Bennett.
Kerr responded: “Wow this stuff is amazing, I remember getting my favourite players jersey when I was a kid. Love what I do. Happy birthday little one!!”
