Kewell and Chipperfield on the mark in Europe

A host of Qantas Socceroos stars were action over the week in important European qualifying games, with Harry Kewell and Scott Chipperfield both on the mark for their clubs.

A host of Qantas Socceroos stars were in action over the week in important European qualifying games, with Harry Kewell and Scott Chipperfield both on the mark for their clubs.

Kewell grabbed Galatasaray-s 2nd goal just after half time in a 4-1 win over Israel side Maccabi Netanya. The former Liverpool midfielder played 66 minutes of the match, which now sees Galatasaray go back to Istanbul with a very handy lead.

Chipperfield was also on the money and scored FC Basel-s opening goal after 58 minutes as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Icelandic side KR Reykjavik.

Australian goalkeepers Mark Schwarzer and Ante Covic were on winning sides; Schwarzer-s Fulham crushing Lithuanian side FK Vetra 3-0 in Vilnius, while Covic-s Elfsborg recorded a valuable 2-1 away win at Braga.

Meanwhile in the European Champions League, Scott McDonald and Luke Wilkshire faced in Glasgow, with Wilkshire-s Dynamo Moscow coming away with a 1-0 win over Celtic. McDonald played the first 60 minutes before being replaced, while Wilkshire played a full game and received a yellow card.

Nikita Rukavytsya continues to make strides with Dutch side FC Twente, coming on as a 62nd minute substitute in a 0-0 draw with Sporting Lisbon. Twente survived almost three-quarters of the game with only 10 men.

It wasn-t a happy night for goalkeeper Michael Petkovic and his Sivasspor side, as they will a miracle back in Turkey after going down 5-0 to Belgian giant Anderlecht. Petkovic played a full game.

The 2nd leg in both competitions will be played next week.
