Qantas Socceroo Harry Kewell made a successful return to the football field early this morning Australian time, helping Liverpool to a 3-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen in their all-important European Champions League match.

Kewell, out of action with a groin injury for over two months, played 77 minutes of the match as a striker.

He played his part as well and was fouled in the lead up to the second goal in the 35th minute, scored by Norwegian Jon Arne Riise. Liverpool took the lead after 16 minutes through Luis Garcia.

Meanwhile there was a full round of lower league football played in England with Kewell-s Qantas Socceroo teammate Luke Wilkshire getting his name on the scoresheet for Bristol City in a 5-1 whitewash of Oldham Atheltic.

Wilkshire netted right on the stroke of half time and was his ninth goal of the season, a good return for the hardworking midfielder.

Other crucial results involving our Aussies Abroad, saw Luton (Chris Coyne) increased its position at the top of the League One table to nine points with a 1-0 win over Walsall, while second placed Hull City (Daniel Allsopp) slipped up away at lowly Milton Keynes (Gareth Edds & Nick Rizzo) after a 1-1 draw. Hartlepool (Joel Porter) improved its automatic promotion hopes with a 3-1 home win over Brentford.

In League Two, Yeovil Town (Scott Guyett & Adrian Caceres) won their top of the table clash against Scunthorpe, finishing 4-3 and moved them five clear at the top and more importantly eight points clear of fourth place, in the race for automatic promotion.
