Australian footballer Harry Kewell has been ruled of this month's Powerade Cup match between Australia and Greece to be played at the MCG on 25 May.

Kewell, who limped off during Liverpool's dramatic FA Cup Final win on the weekend, will now stay in Europe to undergo treatment and will link up with his World Cup team-mates in Holland on 27 May.

Scans revealed a strain of his left groin and Australian team Senior Physiotherapist Les Gelis who accompanied Kewell to the scan estimates he will return to full training in three weeks.

Kewell will be treated by Gelis and Arno Philips (Socceroos Physiotherapist), as well as the Liverpool FC medical staff.

At this stage there is no plan to bring in any stand-by players.

The Socceroos have three matches prior to the World Cup, Greece in Melbourne on 25 May, the Netherlands on 4 June in Rotterdam, and Liechtenstein on 7 June in Ulm.
