The new MCG is set for a record attendance as the last tickets for next Thursday night's Socceroos v Greece Powerade Cup match sold out within minutes of going on sale this morning.

Over 95,000 tickets have now been allocated to the game, with Australian and Greek fans coming together to provide a fitting send off for the World Cup bound Socceroos, and create a record for the refurbished MCG.

Football Federation Australia CEO, John O'Neill, was excited by the sell out. "The momentum for the World Cup is building, and is beginning to capture the imagination of all Australians. The response to the Powerade Cup match in Melbourne has been fantastic.

“It is a great example of the support for football in Australia, and will help show the team that the whole of the country is behind them before they leave for Germany," he commented.

Sports fans in Melbourne who missed out on tickets for the Powerade Cup match can still get the opportunity to see the whole Australian team in person at a player appearance in Federation Square on Monday at 1.30pm.
