Matildas abroad: Raso's US title, Logarzo wins in Sweden

Westfield Matilda Hayley Raso has tasted title success in the USA, while Chloe Logarzo scored in Sweden as our Aussie women continued their excellent form across the globe.

In the National Women’s Soccer League in America, it was a memorable weekend for Raso as Portland Thorns secured the title with a 3-1 win at Sky Blue FC.

After Washington Spirit lost the previous day, the door was open for the Thorns to leapfrog them to top spot and they did just that, with Raso setting up the match-sealing goal just a minute after coming off the bench.

Raso’s Thorns will now try to complete the double as they head into a sudden-death semi-final this weekend against Alanna Kennedy’s Western New York Flash.

In-form Samantha Kerr played a full match for Sky Blue, who ended the season in seventh spot.

Elsewhere in the NWSL, Lisa De Vanna and Laura Alleway both featured for Orlando Pride as they ended the season with a 2-1 loss to FC Kansas City.

Kennedy’s Western New York flash were too good for Kyah Simon’s Boston Breakers, winning 4-0, with the pair both playing 90 minutes, while Lydia Williams and Ellie Brush also had full games in Houston Dash’s 3-2 loss against Seattle Reign.

In Sweden, Logarzo helped Eskilstuna United move up to third spot after an away win over Kopparbergs/Göteborg.

Logarzo scored the last goal of her side’s 3-1 win when she arrived perfectly at the back post to tap home an excellent cross from the left.
