Michelle Heyman signs for Adelaide United for 2018/19 season

Adelaide United have announced the signing of Matildas striker, Michelle Heyman, to the Club’s Women’s Team for the Westfield W-League 2018/19 season.

Heyman arrives at the Reds on a one-year contract and boasts an impressive footballing pedigree, bagging 20 goals in 60 caps for Australia.

The 30-year-old is also the all-time leading goal-scorer in the Westfield W-League, most notably for Canberra United after netting over 50 goals in eight seasons.

Heyman, a two-time Westfield W-League Golden Boot winner, enjoyed a breakout season with Central Coast Mariners in 2009 before moving to Canberra and establishing herself as one of the competition’s most prolific finishers.

She has also enjoyed stints abroad in Denmark with Brøndby IF and American outfit Western New York Flash in the National Women’s Soccer League for the 2015 campaign.

Heyman said she was thrilled to be joining Adelaide and excited by the team’s ambitious objectives after speaking with Head Coach, Ivan Karlović.

“I’m super excited to sign with Adelaide and ready to score some goals for the team,” Heyman said.

“I believe that we can definitely make finals and with the experience that Adelaide have already with the likes of Emma Checker and now with myself adding more experience, I think we can definitely be a successful team.

“Especially with Ivan, because he’s been an incredible coach to talk to so far with his vision and what he wants for this year and I see a first finals appearance being very achievable.

“I think a successful team is going to be a happy team and I can’t wait to get started.”

Karlović, lauded the addition of Heyman, stating she will bring a wealth of knowledge and quality to the squad.

“Michelle is an excellent player and has demonstrated this over a number of years, not only in the W-League but also with the Matildas,” he said.

“We’re excited to have someone of her calibre part of our team for the upcoming season and I know her leadership will be vital for us throughout the year.

“This is just one piece of our puzzle for the new campaign and we are working hard in adding more quality and experience to the team in the coming weeks.”
