The 24-year-old beat out Australian teammate Lydia Williams to the prize, with the shot-stopper second in the votes, with Lynn Williams third.

Kerr was voted as August’s best by the NWSL Media Association for a month in which she scored five goals and chipped in with one assist.

She also finished the month with 26 shots, 11 on target and eight chances created.

Kerr, who played for Perth Glory in the Westfield W-League last season, found the net in all but one match, including a brace against Orlando Pride over the weekend which propelled the Red Stars into the top four.

She now has 14 goals for the season to sit two clear at the top of the Golden Boot race, and has now scored 57 goals in her NWSL career.
