Emily Van Egmond says the Westfield Matildas are relishing the opportunity to showcase their ‘exciting’ brand of football in front of some bumper crowds on home soil.

The Matildas defeated Brazil 2-1 in the first of a two-match friendly series in front of a sold-out Pepper Stadium in Penrith on Saturday afternoon.

And with another huge crowd expected in Newcastle for Tuesday night’s second game, Newcastle-born van Egmond says the team are buzzing for another chance to play in front of friends and family.
“We’re all super excited and very grateful to be able to play on home soil against a top-quality side like Brazil,” van Egmond told www.matildas.footballaustralia.com.au
“To be able to play in front of friends and family in Newcastle, I’m excited. I just can’t wait for Tuesday night.
“We’ve heard the crowd is growing still. The girls are just super excited to be home and play in front of the fans here in Australia and show the exciting brand of football that we do play.”

The Matildas jumped to six in the FIFA World rankings following their Tournament of Nations triumph last month which included wins over USA, Japan and Brazil.
And with the likes of Sam Kerr and Lisa De Vanna scoring goals for fun, van Egmond admits it’s an exciting time to be involved with a ‘maturing’ Matildas team.

“Exciting is definitely the word to use. We’ve got a very fast attack. We’re also looking at how to control games with the ball,” van Egmond said.
“The philosophy and the goals we’re working towards, everyone’s on the same page. It’s just very enjoyable.
“Off the back of the success in America, we’ve definitely got momentum on our side.
“But I think the most important thing is the girls are just really having fun and enjoying what we’re doing.”
