NWSL Preview: Five Westfield Matildas set for midweek action

Bragging rights will be on the line for five Westfield Matildas when the National Women's Soccer League continues on Thursday morning (AEST).

Kyah Simon and the Houston Dash host Ellie Carpenter's Portland Thorns at 10am (AEST), looking to build on their first win of the season.

Following their 3-2 win over Sky Blue FC, the Dash sit in eighth position on the ladder and will be looking to leapfrog the Thorns with a big victory.

Simon's participation is in doubt, however, with the striker listed as questionable for the game due to a left calf contusion.

Carpenter is looking to make her Thorns debut, with the NAB Young Footballer of the Year being limited to a bench role following her return from the 2018 AFC Women's Asian Cup.

Westfield Matildas' midfield lynchpins Katrina Gorry, Emily Van Egmond and Alanna Kennedy will meet in Utah when the Royals host Orlando Pride.

The Royals are currently in the midst of a four-match run of home matches and will be looking to claim back-to-back victories following their last-start triumph against Washington Spirit.

Gorry was impressive in the heart of midfield in the win, having three shots on goal.

Following her heroics for the Westfield Matildas in Jordan, Kennedy has been an ever-present in midfield for the Pride, starting in both the 1-1 draw with Seattle and the 2-0 win over Chicago. Van Egmond will be looking to continue her fine form for Tom Sermanni's side, having claimed an assist in her last appearance.
