One week until Socceroos know World Cup fate

The Socceroos will find out which countries they will face in the group stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup when the Final Draw takes place in seven days time.

The Socceroos will find out which countries they will face in the group stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup when the Final Draw takes place in Brazil, LIVE and exclusive 2:45am AEDT Saturday 7 December on SBS ONE.

SBS football host Les Murray will be live in Bahia in Brazil as the draw is announced, which will determine which countries will go head to head in the opening group stage of the competition.

Several former FIFA World Cup players will be assisting with the draw including Zinedine Zidane (France), Sir Geoff Hurst (England), Fabio Cannavaro (Italy) and Mario Kempes (Argentina).

Scott McIntyre will be live in studio with SBS Chief Football Analyst Craig Foster and former Socceroo Jason Culina to give their thoughts and analysis on the draw.

SBS will hear from Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou immediately after the draw for his reaction on the Socceroos fixtures.

FIFA are yet to confirm the process that will decide the grouping but based on precedent there will be one pot of seeds consisting of hosts Brazil and the seven highest-seeded nations, (based on October's FIFA rankings) and three pots based on geographical considerations.

The world football governing body will formally announce the precise format of the draw on 3 December following a meeting of their delegation.

The implications of this are that Australia will be drawn to play against either Brazil or one of the top seven teams in the world, alongside one of Europe-s powerhouses and a country from South America or Africa, or France (as the lowest ranked European team).
