The Pararoos have gone down to Argentina 0-4 at the International Tournament in Football 7-a-side which is being held in Yevpatoriya City, Ukraine
The Pararoos had an early chance with a free kick after Ben Atkins was brought down in the 3rd minute of the game just outside of the penalty box. Resultant shot was cleared off the line by the Argentina defence.
In the 5th minute the Pararoos were too casual to close down the ball in the box and the Argentinean-s shot hit the underside of the cross bar to open the scoring.
Jack Williams earned a free kick in the 9th minute which was well struck but cleared again off the line by the Argentine defence.
Argentina doubled their lead in the 14th minute when they converted a penalty and extended their lead three minutes later following some lax defending.
Pararoos goalkeeper Chris Barty was called upon in the latter stages of the half to stop Argentinean shots on two occasions.
Gaining in confidence from every minute they play throughout the tournament, the Pararoos matched their more-fancied South American opposition throughout the second half.
Just when it looked to be a goalless second half, Chris Barty was unable to hold onto the ball after making a great save which Argentina followed in to extend their lead to 4-0.
After the match Kai Lammert was impressed by his team-s performance.
“Our young Aussie team impressed against a seasoned Argentina team. They matched them physically and tackily,” said Lammert.
“The skills and athleticism of the Argentine team, together with some mistakes from our side made the difference in the end.
“The Man of the Match performance was definitely from our goalkeeper Western Australian Chris Barty. Without him the score line would have been very different.
“With every game played our team seems to improve and adapt to the speed of play required in top class international football,” concluded Lammert.
