Qantas U23s to face Yemen in Olympic Games Qualifiers

The Qantas U23s have been drawn against Yemen in the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2012 London Olympics men’s football tournament.

The Qantas U23s are scheduled to play the home leg of the tie on 19 June 2011 and the away leg on the 23 June 2011 with venues and kick-off times to be confirmed.

One of the most interesting pairings of the second round sees Iraq matched up with their local rivals IR Iran, whilst other fixtures include Japan meeting Kuwait, DPR Korea facing UAE, Korea Republic playing Jordan and China up against Oman. Asia are allotted 3.5 slots for the 2012 London Olympics men-s football tournament.

The 12 winners from Round 2 will be divided into three groups of four teams each in the third round.

Again, a home-and-away format from 21 September 2011, to 14 March 14, 2012, will determine the winner of each group who will represent the continent in the Olympics.

Three second-placed teams from the third round will clash in a playoff at a centralised venue from March 25 to 29, 2012, and the winners of this group will meet the representatives of CAF (Africa) for a berth in the Olympics.
