Socceroos regular Matt McKay has reportedly been released by his club Changchun Yatai after six months with the Chinese Super League side.

McKay joined Changchun at the start of the year, in what was his second spell with the club after he was loaned to them by Brisbane Roar back in 2009. However having been deployed in just 11 games this season it seems he will now be forced to continue his career elsewhere.

After spending six years in the Hyundai A-League with Brisbane Roar, McKay has also spent a season abroad with Glascow Rangers and Korea Republic side Busan IPark.

While not confirming a release, McKay-s agent said he was in talks with the Chinese club about his client's future. A host of A-League clubs would surely be interested in the versatile midfielder should be become available.

The 30-year-old, who was part of the Socceroos side that qualified for the World Cup and is currently with the national side competing at the East Asian Cup felt that perhaps his utility value was effecting his current form, which he admitted has been below his usual standard.

"It's not easy because I play at my club in central midfield, and come here and I play left midfield or left back,-- said McKay.

"I can do any job … so it's hard to settle really.

"I can play anywhere. It's just wherever I can help the team and my different attributes will help."

McKay was deployed at left-back during Australia-s successful campaign to qualify for Brazil but has been pushed higher up the park to left midfield in the Socceroos games against Korea Republic and Japan.

However with Coach Holger Osieck announcing he would make several changes to his side for Australia-s last match against China, it is not clear whether McKay will get another opportunity to showcase his talents at tournament.

"I'm sure he (Osieck) will change the team up a bit, freshen it up. It's a (quick) turnaround for the next game so some fresh legs will do us good.

"And it will be against a Chinese team that are full strength. They're one of the only teams that came here full strength.

"So it will be a good challenge and one I think that we can get a result out of."

"For the A-League boys they've worked really hard … they deserve a chance," he said.
