Qantas Matildas captain Cheryl Salisbury has been invited, along with many of the world-s best female players, to play in a FIFA Women-s World Stars v China that will played in conjunction with the FIFA Women-s World Cup draw.
The match will take place in Wuhan Sport Centre Stadium, one of five venues to be used at the FIFA Women-s World Cup, in China on April 22, with the draw being held the next day at the Wuhan Guanggu Science and Technology Exhibition Centre.
The World Stars team comprises just one player per country, with most players coming from those that have already qualified for the FIFA Women-s World Cup that will be played in China in September.
Notable names among the invited players are Marta (Brazil, FIFA Women-s World Player of the Year for 2006), Kristine Lilly (USA, runner-up to Marta in the 2006 vote) and Birgit Prinz (Germany, a three-time winner of the same award in 2003, 2004 and 2005).
Current England coach Hope Powell and the former coach of the reigning world champions Germany, Tina Theune-Meyer, have been invited to put this “dream team” through its paces.
