Sam Kerr pays tribute to Sky Blue FC after NWSL move

Sam Kerr has paid tribute to her Sky Blue FC teammates after confirmation the Westfield Matildas star will join fellow NWSL club Chicago Red Stars next season. 

Kerr, 24, is switching to the Red Stars as part of a three-way trade between Chicago, Sky Blue and Houston Dash. 

In the deal, announced over the weekend, two-time FIFA Player of the Year Carli Lloyd links with Sky Blue from Houston, USA international Christen Press joins Houston from Chicago and Kerr moves to the Red Stars.

Joining Kerr at Chicago is fellow Glory teammate Nikki Stanton, who made 41 appearances in the last four seasons at Sky Blue.

“Just want to say thank you to Sky Blue for the past 3 years. I made some of the most amazing friends at the club and will forever be grateful for this," Kerr wrote on Twitter. 

“To the Sky Blue fans, thank you. We had some crazy times in 2017 that I’ll never forget.

“I feel very lucky that I get to continue my next journey in Chicago with Nicole [Stanton].”

Kerr is coming off a remarkable 2017 with Sky Blue having netted a stunning 17 goals, a new single-season record in the NWSL.

Her goal-scoring exploits saw her become the competition's all-time leading goal-scorer and she was ultimately named the league's Most Valuable Player for the 2017 season.

She was also named the AFC's Women's Player of the Year, as well as Women's Health's Sportswoman of the Year, amid a raft of accolades.
