Qantas Socceroo and Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has revealed on his Official Website www.markschwarzer.com that he has agreed to a new 3-year contract with the club.

Despite constant speculation that Schwarzer could be heading away from Boro after he rejected the first offer made by the club, the Aussie shot-stopper was always keen to stay and was delighted to announce the extension till the summer of 2008.

Schwarzer said, “I-ve had eight great seasons at the club, including a League Cup winner-s medal last February, and now a good run in the UEFA Cup. The club has come a long way since I signed from Bradford City in February 1997, and this is our best ever season in the league, currently in 6th place having played nearly two-thirds of the season. The club has shown that its ambitious and I want to continue to be part of that.

The extension of his contract at Boro will also earn Schwarzer a testimonial match, which is very much a rarity in the Premier League these days.

Schwarzer thanked everybody from his manager Steve McLaren, goalkeeping coach Paul Barron and especially the fans for their patience throughout the media speculation over his contract talks.
