Schwarzer wants Moore

Socceroos goal-keeper Mark Schwarzer has backed fellow veteran Craig Moore to continue his revived intentional career for the duration of Australia's 2010 World Cup campaign.

Socceroos goal-keeper Mark Schwarzer has backed fellow veteran Craig Moore to continue his revived intentional career for the duration of Australia's 2010 World Cup campaign.

Moore brought himself out of international retirement recently and Socceroos' coach Pim Verbeek had no hesitations naming him in the national squad for next week's World Cup qualifier against Qatar in Brisbane.

While it remains to be seen whether Moore will be a part of Verbeek's final line-up on Wednesday night, Schwarzer was happy to declare that Moore 'will be here for the rest of the campaign, without a doubt'.

"I don't think it's a one-off, it's definitely until the end of the campaign, in my opinion anyway," he said.

"I believe once you make that decision to come back into the team, you might as well see it through."

Moore wouldn't be drawn into making a statement about his future, but it wouldn't be the first time that Schwarzer has made a prophetic prediction about the Queensland Roar captain.

Moore first retired from international football after the Socceroos' 3-0 win over Qatar in February earlier this year but Schwarzer felt even then that he would see Moore in the green and gold once again.

"I personally didn't believe he was making the right decision, I thought he should have stayed on."

"He was adamant at the time that he wasn't going to play again, but I proved him wrong and proved me right by seeing him in camp yesterday which was great."

Schwarzer called Moore a top-class player, but wasn't about to preempt Verbeek's decision as to whether or not to start the 32-year-old.

"Who knows, that's the manager's job."

"Moore's a top quality player, he's got an amazing amount of experience, but if you look at the last couple of performances, we've done very well defensively."

"It's a nice headache for the manger to have."

Moore was happy to be back in the national set-up once again, but knew it would be a challenge to make his way into the Socceroos starting line-up, particularly with Verbeek having included a number of central defenders in his squad.

"It's fantastic to be back involved in the squad, obviously it's still going to be cut back, but I'm in here to work hard and hopefully get the opportunity to play a game," Moore said.

"You'd love to play, I'd be disappointed if I didn't because that's the type of person that I am."

"But for me the most important thing is that the Australian team does well and qualifies for the World Cup."

"You ask a manger and I'm sure he'd rather have selection headaches with too many players to choose from rather than not enough."
