The 2-1 win against the Netherlands and 1-0 away win in Uzbekistan in the first game of the FIFA World Cup Qualifying - Round 4 matches, saw Australia pick up 82 points and a big leap up the rankings.

Australia-s highest ever position of 31 in July 2007 is under threat, if they are successful in their remaining two World Cup qualifiers this year. The Socceroos play Qatar in Brisbane on October 15 and then travel to play Bahrain on November 19.

It-s the highest ranking since moving to 33 after the success at the FIFA World Cup in 2006.

The Socceroos however still remain behind Japan as the highest ranked Asian nation, who jumped three places to 32 on the back of its World Cup qualifying performance. Iran, at No. 48, is the only other Asian country inside the top 50.

Spain still heads the rankings list by almost 300 rankings points, with Italy and Germany staying second and third respectively. The Netherlands and Croatia dropped a position each, with Brazil jumping two spots into fourth position.

Argentina, Czech Republic, Guss Hiddink-s Russia and Portugal make up the top 10, ahead of notables like France (11), Turkey (13) and England (14). Russia was the biggest mover amongst these nations, jumping three places to 9th.
