Third place for Qantas Young Socceroos

The Qantas Young Socceroos have finished in third place of the AFF U-19 Tournament after defeating host nation Vietnam 4-0 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Qantas Young Socceroos have finished in third place of the AFF U-19 Tournament after defeating host nation Vietnam 4-0 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Jason Geria opened in the scoring in the 10th minute when he got on the end of a Riley Woodcock corner at the far post.

Woodcock then got on the score sheet in the 37th minute when he curled a left-footed free kick, that bounced just short of the keeper and spun into the goal at the far post.

The second half saw the Qantas Young Socceroos continue to dominate proceedings, and Adam Taggart (pictured) extended his team-s lead in the 66th minute with an opportunistic goal after a scramble in play in the box

The scoring was completed in the 71st minute when a deep clearance from Qantas Young Socceroos goalkeeper Munro a landed near his opposite penalty box. Woodcock pounced on the ball, took on two defenders and calmly slotted his second goal of the game.

Qantas Young Socceroos head coach Paul Okon was pleased with his team-s final performance of the tournament.

“It was good to finish with a win, we played some good patches of football and these were rewarded in getting goals on the board,” Okon said.

“The tournament has been further preparation for the AFC U-19 Championships and shows that we still need a lot of preparation before the November."

In the other match of the tournament, IR Iran defeated Uzbekistan 2-1 to claim the AFF U19 Tournament 2012 championship title.
